This last week has been full kleenex, vitamins, snot, cough drops, lots of water, naps, cuddles, and any kind of cold medicine I could find. Yep, you guessed it we’ve had a cold bug at our house. Gotta love school age children bringing home all kinds of special bugs!
It started with Riley having a cough for about a week, and then on Valentines day Aubrey and I both came down with a cold / temperature, and then within a day my husband came down with it too. In the midst of all our being sick my little girlie celebrated her 4th birthday! It is hard to believe that the tiny little peanut of a thing that made her entrance into the world very quickly in the middle of the night 4 years ago is now a beautiful little girl!
Before we had gotten sick we had planned her birthday celebration for this last weekend. Despite the fact that we were sick we decided to go ahead with a “modified” party. I wasn’t able to do all the fun little decor things I had planned, so we opted to do a second party with her cousins and friends another day to do all the fun things. Since she is only 4 you can’t totally cancel a planned party though. Stay tuned for the next party with all the fun little details, plus a big announcement!
Here are just a couple shots from this weekend…

awwwww being sick is no fun. Hope everyone is up and running soon. Happy Birthday Aubrey!!
Happy birthday!!! Stinks to be sick, but she sure looks happy anyway.
Happy Birthday! Be well soon!
happy birthday! Hope she’s feeling better soon!
In honor of Valentines I thought I’d post some of my favorite LOVE images. Love comes in many shapes, sizes, and expressions. Whether you’re boyfriend and girlfriend, engaged to be married, celebrating an anniversary, or just enjoying each other it is a beautiful thing to be captured. And, of course there is a love between a mother and her babies (big or small!). I love working with families, be they a couple or with children. I love capturing the raw emotion of their relationship. There is something about these images that just pull at my heart strings- the love, protection, joy, peace, fun, fulfillment, and partnership that they represent.
If you’re in the Spokane, WA area and you’re interested in capturing your love please contact me and schedule your session today!

First off I must state for the record- I am NOT the official photographer of the Lilac Festival. These pictures are not my normal standard of photography as I was there working within the Lilac Festivals requirements.
I attended the Lilac 2012 Dream and Reach for the Stars Coronation at the request of some of the parents of the Fab 14 girls. I was there to document the event for them, as well as cheer on my Creatively Yours Senior Girls- Bethany Hand, Mt. Spokane High School and Linnea Kessler, Cheney High School.
This was the first Coronation I’ve ever attended, and I must admit I was super impressed. As any life long resident of Spokane, WA as a little girl I always dreamed of being a Lilac Princess and riding on the float at the Lilac Torchlight Parade. To see what these girls have done in the last 3 months since reaching the Fab 14 stage was amazing. They have been trained in etiquette, self-defense, public speaking, participated in several charity events, and much more. Each girl was assigned a quote in keeping with this years theme, “Dream and Reach for the Stars”. They then wrote and delivered a speech at the Coronation.
At the end of the night 8 scholarships were announced. I was so happy when both my girls names were called- Bethany won for most inspirational speech! Linnea won the Family Night scholarship!

You must be so proud! What lovely ladies
Beautiful gowns! Your seniors are fabulous!!
Such beautiful gowns, Kelly! And your pictures ARE just as beautiful!
Here is my bit of lilac info…There is a song called ‘Jeannine, I Dream of Lilac Time’. The lyrics are by L.Wolfe Gilbert, & music by Nathaniel Shilkret. It was composed as the theme song for the first national production of LILAC TIME starring Collen Moore…a show from long, long ago.
My Mother named me after this song, although she changed the spelling of my name. I have wonderful memories of her singing this song to me as I grew up. (She had a beautiful alto voice.) Every year we would listen for it during the Lilac parade, and although it was usually played as an instrumental; no words were sung; it was almost always played when our Spokane lilac float went by…
What a great thing for these girls to be a part of!!!
beautiful girls! looks like a fun event.
Beautiful girls and gorgeous images <3
One of the things I love about photography is that the learning never ends. I love that there is always something new to discover. It doesn’t always make the old way wrong, or even the new way better. It just is something new. One of the ways I continually learn is being on different online forums. Two that I call home are 4 the Love of Focus and Inside the Locker.
Thanks to the women on 4 the Love of Focus I was able to fix one of my favorite pictures of my daughter. The day we took the picture it was a bit breezy and with her long fine hair it is nearly impossible to catch a shot without wispys in her face. I tried with no avail to fix them before. One of the photographers suggested using the healing brush tool to fix it. It worked like a charm.

On both forums I’ve heard amazing things about Michelle Kane and her actions. Michelle is actually one of the photographers on Inside the Locker. She is such a sweet heart! I’ve been eying her actions for awhile now, amazed at how many different looks photographers I know have been able to achieve using them. Well, I finally broke down and got them and have been having fun playing with them. Since it is winter and cold I don’t have a lot of new sessions right now, so I took a couple of my shots from last summer and played with them. I’m really going to enjoy working with them! I love my senior girls- it is always fun to pull out their shots and see what new magic I can work on them!
