There is nothing like capturing the wedding of someone that you’ve known most of your life. There is nothing like capturing the wedding of a woman who has waited until she is in her late 30′s to get married for the very first time. There is nothing like capturing a story of redeeming love.  When you put all those things together it is one amazing day, and that is what Leah and Eric’s wedding day was!

Someone recently asked me what kind of photographer I am- journalistic, detailed, traditional… It is a question I’ve been asked before, but have never been quite sure how to answer.  That day sitting with a perspective bride and her mother, it popped out of my mouth, “I am a relational photographer”.  To me all the details, journalism, and traditional wedding photos really are secondary.  I love weddings, because I love photographing the relationships involved- the bride and groom, the parents, friends, all of them.

Leah and Eric’s wedding really was a celebration of those relationships.  I heard Leah tell someone that day that she has been a bridesmaid 11 times!  She is loved by many people!  And, all of those people were so excited for her day finally be here.  I watched as Bridesmaids walked down the aisle with tears in their eyes, so happy for their friend.  I listened to sniffs throughout the ceremony as people were overjoyed for their friends.  When Eric and Leah brought Eric’s girls to the altar to present them with a special gift I caught glimpses of the family with tears running down their faces.  It was an amazing day celebrating their love!

Last week was Emily & Josh’s Camp Caro wedding in the Spokane Valley.  They had an amazing DIY wedding.  Camp Caro offered a huge array of scenery.  From the grassy lawn where their tents where set up to the forest where the ceremony took place it all was amazing.   Emily really wanted her wedding to be unique and showcase their relationship.  I think she succeeded!  They decided on a late morning ceremony.  Their favorite time of the day to go out on dates.  They loved going out for breakfast and brunch.  For their meal (catered by Black Tie Catering) they chose breakfast foods- blueberries waffles, bacon, eggs, potatoes, and fresh fruit!  It was delicious!  Emily wanted pink frosted donuts instead of cake to complete their morning treat theme.  Almost all the decor was made by Emily with the assistance of her bridesmaids!  And, she did a phenomenal job!  Everywhere I looked there was another detail that she had designed.

One of the most unique things though about her wedding was her wedding dress.  This dress had been worn by both her Mother and Grandmother before her.  The dress had been redesigned for Emily using the original materials.  Even the lace from Grandmother’s veil was re-used.  It was wrapped around her bouquet!  It was absolutely stunning!  And, was all done by Jennifer Sellen Welch.

Have you noticed?  The weather seems to have shifted.  It is beginning to feel like fall!  I am already looking forward to the fall colors!  I love being able to offer families that might not want a full blown session the option of having a shorter session.  These sessions are only available a couple times a year.  The galleries are smaller, the sessions are shorter, and are only available on certain dates.  Enter the Limited Edition Spokane Family Mini sessions!  Your family is whatever you would like it to be- just the kids; kids, plus Mom and Dad, a couple!  These sessions will take place in my field or at a park type location nearby.  The spots are very limited, so be sure to snag yours soon!

I have been looking forward to Jessica and Patrick’s wedding for almost a year now.  I mean who doesn’t love hearing during the initial consultation that the bride is wearing an Alfred Angelo Disney Princess wedding gown!  Then you add in the fact that the ceremony would be taking place on Lake Pend Oreille.  From there we boated into Sandpoint, Idaho for the reception at the Sandpoint Event Center.

Jessica and Patrick met at WSU their freshman year.  One of the things that I loved about their wedding party was that they were either all long time friends and went onto college together or they all met each other in college.  It felt like a huge family!  They all  were so happy for each other and invested in everyone’s lives.  On top of that you have all the additional friends and family that made their day special.  They helped by creating the flowers, the cake, and decorations.  The ultimate contribution was by Jessica’s Aunt and Uncle for allowing them to use their house and yard for the wedding.  Oh, and all those amazing flowers are all done by her aunt as well!

The other recurring theme for the day was FUN, lots and lots of fun!  These guys know how to party and party they did!  From beginning to end it was a celebration of two people that they loved getting married and starting a new chapter in their lives.

I will be honest part of me is so excited for fall to arrive!  In large part, because I’m done with these 90-100 degree days!  Doing sessions while sweating has lost all appeal.  I will be sad for school to start and my kids to be gone all the time (at least that is how I’m feeling today. lol)  I do love doing fall family portraits though.  I love the colors, the textures- hello, sweater weather, and the fall foods!  I’ve had several people asking about family sessions this fall, so I thought it would be fun to do a little something for all of you that are thinking ahead and ready to book those sessions.

The great thing about booking a regular session rather than a mini session is that you get more control and customization.  These sessions can be done at a location of your choosing within the Spokane area- a field, the park, your home, downtown, …

Mini session information will be coming up shortly, so stay tuned.  Sessions will most likely take place either Sunday, September 28th or Saturday, October 4th.
