It is always such a honor to have any family ask that I take their family photos, even more so when it is the first family photo! And, the topping on the cake when it is the owner of another local business that I love. That is exactly what today’s post brings! Allyssa owns Finders Keepers in downtown Spokane. One of my favorite places to go ooh and aaahh over all the beautiful dresses. Her little girlie- Miss H joined their family in October, and she asked me to take their first professional family photos! It was December, so it isn’t exactly the best time of the year to be outdoors, especially with a 2 month old. Luckily, I love my little studio and was able to have it nice and toasty warm for them. Miss H was so much fun to capture. I love her big chubby cheeks (who am I kidding, her whole cute little self is chubby!) and that grin will melt your heart in two seconds flat! I love the very J Crew, Gap style that Allyssa went for to create a neutral and natural palette for their photos. They are sure to remain absolutely classic for years to come!
I was honored to be part of this Spokane Wedding Inspiration session. Inspiration shoots take place when one wedding professional is inspired to put together a group of vendors to basically put on a mock type wedding. Local vendors provide- flowers, table settings, a model in a wedding dress, dessert, props, the whole nine yards. In most cases all we’re missing is a groom, wedding party, and guests. This inspiration shoot was put together by Alyssa with Belle Journee Events. She was inspired by the simple idea of a bride taking a sip of hot cocoa. The venue she found to pull it all together is the beautiful Camden Ranch in Elk, WA. It was December, just a week before Christmas. Alyssa did a great job in balancing the Christmas-y feel with a beautiful winter wedding. We had an amazing team of vendors to round out our shoot! Our model for the day was Alisha Heller- who was an absolute trooper!!! It was cold that day, even in snow boots, jacket, scarf, hat, and gloves and she was out there in a strapless wedding gown! She was a pleasure to work with and I love how her red hair pops in all the photos. You can find a complete vendor list at the end of this post.

The Bowdish family came to me last fall to take their family pictures. This is a very special family, because their oldest daughter Kyra is one of my senior models for the class of 2014! I love getting to work with my seniors again to capture their family photos before one of the kid’s graduates! It is not only a big time in the seniors lives, but also in the family’s life!
For their family photos Mom wanted to capture the gorgeous colors in Spokane. Although most will want to go to park to get these colors I suggested that we go to one of my favorite spots for seniors. I had never taken a family here before, but knew they would be up for the adventure! It is the perfect little nook tucked away and full of gorgeous colors, the creek, a bridge, and an awesome dirt road! It was perfect for this country family! When I do family photos I always make sure that we not only get photos of the whole family, but we also get some of the kids by themselves, and one of my favorites is to get one of just Mom and Dad. For most couples after we have kids the photo of just the two of us are pretty few and far between, something that should be fixed! Mom chose to do a couple colleges with these photos- creating two pieces of art for their home. One with a photo of each of the kids by themselves and one of her and dad. The other is the photos of her with the kids and dad with the kids!
I’m so excited to share this beautiful Spokane family’s photos! This Mom is very dear to our family’s heart. She was both of my children’s preschool teacher! At the end of their time with her I gifted to her a family session and digital images. I wanted to be able to do something special for her and her beautiful family after all she given to my kiddos. She did such an amazing job preparing my kids kindergarten and the rest of their elementary school years. She and her kids met me in Spokane at People’s Park. It was an absolutely gorgeous day and the fall colors were in full bloom (yes, I realize that gives away how long ago this session took place!). I loved how well Jennifer did with styling her family. By adding textures- like in her son’s vest, her daughter’s shirt and boots and layers she has added so much interest to the photos. Plus, the colors in their clothes perfectly complimented the colors around them!Spokane Family Photos?
I can’t believe that I have never blogged about this beautiful Spokane Wedding Inspiration shoot that I was part of at the Davenport Hotel! It was such a great opportunity as a photographer to be able to photograph at one of the premier wedding venues in Spokane. I was asked by Apple Brides to take part in this wedding inspiration photography event. It was planned for more than a month, probably closer to 2! So, imagine my discouragement when 2 weeks before the event I was diagnosed with pneumonia! Luckily by the day of the shoot I had been on anti-biotics was at least able to feel like I could be up and about a bit more. The ladies with Apple Brides were amazing for me making sure I had everything I needed to get through the day and be able take some of the most beautiful wedding photos at this gorgeous location.
Working with the Davenport Hotel is quite the experience! They are a self contained amazing resource for all things wedding. We started the day in the Davenport Spa where our beautiful models had their hair and makeup done. From there we started photographing in 4 different ballrooms. The Davenport provided the florals, the linens, china, pretty much everything you see. When I think of the Davenport one of the things I definitely think of is luxury and in every aspect they lived up to that standard.
