Pinterest… a blessing or a curse?

I joined Pinterest just over a year ago. At the time I joined it was a fairly unknown thing. There were mainly photographers, crafters, and other artisans on there. In the last maybe 6 months it has exploded. It has become a place for all ages, types of people, and interests. I’m sure by now if you’re on pinterest you’ve seen the posts about people deleting their accounts as they are unsure of the terms of use and copyright. I’ve seen all sorts posting things about it and from various angles.

So, by now you’re probably asking what my take is on it, right?
Well, here are my thoughts….
For me pinterest is no different than me bookmarking site on my computer. We’ve all done that before, right? Seen something you liked- a recipe, a diy post, an image, haircut, home idea…. and bookmarked the page so you don’t forget to go back and look at it. Maybe this method has worked for some people, but I ALWAYS forget to go back and look. Since I can’t have a visual reminder of what each bookmark is about I forget. I’ll admit I am a VERY visual person… a large part of why I think I was drawn to photography. So, Pinterest for me has been a visual bookmark of things I want to remember. I will admit when I see something that someone has pinned, but hasn’t bothered to pin it correctly it irritates me. I have to go back and find the correct link and pin it anew with the corrected link. To me this is where the issue comes in with pinterest- things that aren’t pinned correctly.

What there is pinning etiquette? I think there is and tomorrow I’ll post a few tips.

Ready for a confession… I’m a pinterest junky! I’m sure you’re shocked.  Yes, I’m definitely in the pinterest is a blessing camp! I try to only post things that I’m really going to do or try or inspire me. I’m not just a mad, no rhyme or reason pinner. I love to do searches for things that interest me and find ideas. Things I have searched for that I wouldn’t have found anywhere else or would have searched for forever- Transformers birthday party, Strawberry Shortcake birthday party, garden ideas, landscaping, birthday girl outfits, recipes,…. I’ve used it for inspiration for shoots, home decor, and even planned meals.:)

If you’re not on pinterest and would like to be leave a comment below with your email and full name and send you an invitation to join. And, stay tuned, ’cause I’m going to be announcing a pinterest themed contest later this week!

Want a sneak peek of what I’ve been pinning? You can go to http://pinterest.com/kellyq/ Some of my favorite finds on pinterest-

Strawberry Lemonade
I have a whole board just of silly things to “Make My Kids Giggle”. This board has pulled a grumpy girl out of her funk numerous times!

I’ve found lots of Photo Booth inspiration as well!

Spokane Prom Season

Prom season is upon us!  I love this time of the year… seeing all the seniors out with their boyfriends and girlfriends, dressed up, having fun, and enjoying their night to celebrate coming to the end of their time in high school.  Each weekend it is a giant surprise where you will find them and what school they will be from.

As your hustling  around looking for the perfect dress, shoes, accessories, and booking appointments for your hair and makeup don’t forget the most important part…. documenting the whole thing and getting the pictures to prove just how amazing you look.  If you still haven’t found the perfect dress make sure you check out Finders Keepers on Main, just west of Division.  They have everything from shoes, jewelry, hair accessories, and dresses to get you ready for your big night. And, since they keep track of who is wearing what where, there won’t be any “Who wore it better moments?”!  While you’re there you can check out my new senior brochures on display, make sure to pick one up for you and your friend!

Fabulous offer!

This is such an awesome idea!! I would have loved to have had photos of my friends and I all ready for prom…. the too bright, too dark, blurry photos from my mom’s camera just aren’t the same!

10 on 10.. Month 2

So, what is 10 on 10 you may ask?

10 on 10 is 10 photographers, posting 10 images on the 10th of each month.  This is a personal project that I’m starting with a group of 10 other photographers.  We are all members of 4 the Love Focus, an on-line forum for professional women photographers.  After you’re done here you can click the link below to go visit the next photographer in our little group-

Jenn Reno Photography in Bern NC.

Sadly for a lot of professional photographers, myself very  much included, our own family photographers of the daily happenings in our lives are left not documented.  For myself I found that the more I learned about my camera the less I’ve used it for images of everyday life.  I’m constantly thinking about ISO, shutter speeds, light…. and not about capturing these precious moments in my children’s lives.  That is why I’ve joined this 10 on 10 group.  These images while not technically perfect are capturing my children and our lives.  The 10 images I’m sharing represent a day in our families lives…. a very special day, my little girlie’s actual birthday!  I had big plans for all the fun things we were going to do to celebrate, but those had to scratched because both myself and my girlie were sick.  Instead we had a laid back day and just enjoyed her!

Love is in the Air

Every where I look around, Love is in the air every time you are around!

This Cyndi Lauper song was the song my husband and I walked down the aisle to at the end of our wedding cermony. It has a special place in my heart for sure! I don’t really remember when Cyndi first did, since I wasn’t allowed to listen to secular music when I was younger. I first heard the song on Strictly Ballroom (an Australian film). If you love dancing and you’ve never seen Strictly Ballroom you’re missing out! In fact right now I have an overwhelming desire to watch it. lol The scene with the song is when the leading couple is on the roof in the evening practicing, with a neon Coke sign behind them- so iconic! Okay, yes off to watch the movie!

Okay, I got it out of my system back to the business at hand. This Engagement session was done on New Years Eve down in the GU District, that would be the Gonzaga University District to those of you not from Spokane. With the Kennel just beyond us I went out with these two love birds who will be tying the knot next November in Hawaii. When I talked to Jennifer about what she wanted from her session she said she wanted them to be romantic. I think we captured that! What do you think?

Class of 2013 Model Search

Are you a member of the Class of 2013 in Spokane, Cheney, Mead, or Coeur d’Alene? If you are and you want not only some kickin’ senior pictures, but also a chance to earn some cash then I’m ready for you! I’m currently building my Senior Model Team for the Class of 2013!

Now, when I say models I don’t mean you have to wear a size 2, be tall, and thin, and have modeling experience. My program is open to all- guys, girls, short, tall… As a senior model you will have a model experience- hair, makeup, a minimum of 2 different shoots, plus you’ll earn cash for every friend that you refer to Creatively Yours!

Space is limited, and the deadline to apply is almost here, so don’t miss this opportunity!

Last year I had models representing Lewis and Clark High School, Mt. Spokane High School, Lakeside High School, Zion Christian Center, and Veritas Press Academy. Here are just a few of the images from last years models-
